CURRICULUM FEATURES The Core Knowledge Sequence curriculum is the basis of the curriculum used at ORLS. We suppliment this with topics that meet our local Hawaii needs. Classroom

Handwriting: D'Nealian printing is mastered in Kindergarten and cursive begins in Grade 2.

Reading: Phonics, word recognition, word analysis, comprehension, vocabulary skills. Emphasis on literature and independent reading.

History and Geography: The community, regions of the world, Hawaiian studies, United States history, World history, political science, current events and map skills.

Mathematics: Basic arithmetic skills, hands-on experiences, pre-algebra, pre-geometry and algebra.

Religion: Bible stories, Bible knowledge, God's plan as it is fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Science: The study of plants, animals, weather, sound, light, energy, astronomy, geology and paleontology. God as the earth's creator is emphasized.

Spelling and Language: Writing, listening, grammar, word derivation, word analysis and dictation.

Before and After School Care Our Redeemer operates on a modified year-round school calendar.  Supervised before school car is available from 6:30am to 7:30am.  After school care is available from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.  Our After School Care Program provides time for study, free play, organized games and other activtites.

MUSIC PROGRAM Music classes are taught to students from grade Kindergarten through grade Five. Beginning in grade Four, students may choose to participate in teh string ensemble. In grade Five, they may choose to participate in band or choir.

Music Band Class Our Music Program is lead by Mr. Allen Bauchle. He has taught at Our Redeemer for over 25 years. He has performed with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. He is an active member of the Music Educators' National Conference, the Hawaii Music Educators' Association and the American Choral Directors' Association. He is the assistant choirmaster at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu.


ART PROGRAM  Drawing techniques, creative projects and art appreciation. All students have art classes each week taught by an Art Teacher.

COMPUTER PROGRAM  In October 2007, we purchased and installed 25 NEW MacIntosh Computers for our Computer Lab.  Children K-8 are taught Computer Instruction in our State of the Art Computer Lab

PE and After-School Sports are also a part of the Curriculum.
