CURRICULUM FEATURES The Core Knowledge Sequence curriculum is the basis of the curriculum used at ORLS. We suppliment this with topics that meet our local Hawaii needs.
Handwriting: D'Nealian printing is mastered in Kindergarten and cursive begins in Grade 2.
Reading: Phonics, word recognition, word analysis, comprehension, vocabulary skills. Emphasis on literature and independent reading.
History and Geography: The community, regions of the world, Hawaiian studies, United States history, World history, political science, current events and map skills.
Mathematics: Basic arithmetic skills, hands-on experiences, pre-algebra, pre-geometry and algebra.
Religion: Bible stories, Bible knowledge, God's plan as it is fulfilled through Jesus Christ.
Science: The study of plants, animals, weather, sound, light, energy, astronomy, geology and paleontology. God as the earth's creator is emphasized.

Spelling and Language: Writing, listening, grammar, word derivation, word analysis and dictation.
