Curriculum
The Core Knowledge Sequence curriculum is the basis of the curriculum used at ORLS. We supplement this with topics that meet our local Hawaii needs.

Handwriting: D'Nealian printing is introduced in Kindergarten, mastered in First Grade, & cursive begins in Grade 2

Reading: Phonics, word recognition, word analysis, comprehension, vocabulary skills. Emphasis on literature and independent reading.

History and Geography: The community, regions of the world, Hawaiian studies, United States history, World history, political science, current events and map skills.

Mathematics: Basic arithmetic skills, hands-on experiences, pre-algebra, pre-geometry and algebra.

Religion: Bible stories, Bible knowledge, God's plan as it is fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Science: The study of plants, animals, weather, sound, light, energy, astronomy, geology and paleontology. God as the earth's creator is emphasized.

Spelling and Language: Writing, listening, grammar, word derivation, word analysis and dictation.

Extra Curricular
We at ORLS feel that a well rounded student is best, for that reason we offer an assortment of enriching options for students of all ages.

Music: Music classes are taught to students from grade Kindergarten through grade Five.  Beginning in grade Four, students may choose to participate in the string ensemble.  In grade Five, they may choose to participate in band or choir.  Our Music Program is lead by Mr. Allen Bauchle.  He has taught at Our Redeemer for over 25 years.  He has performed with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra.  He is an active member of the Music Educators' National Conference, the Hawaii Music Educators' Association and the American Choral Directors' Association.  He is the assistant choirmaster at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu.

Art: Drawing techniques, creative projects and art appreciation.  Students in Grades K-6th have art classes each week taught by an Art Teacher.

Computers:  The State-of-the -Art Computer Lab has 25 MacIntosh Computers for our Computer Lab.  These computers are all outfitted as dual-boot Windows (PC) and Apple (Mac).  Children Preschool-8 are taught Computer Instruction.

PE and After-School Sports: are also available for the athletically inclined student.

Before and After School Care: Our Redeemer operates on a modified year-round school calendar.  Supervised before school care is available from 6:30am to 7:30am.  After school care is available from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.  Our After School Care Program provides time for study, free play, organized games and other activities.
